Niagara Falls International Airport Air Reserve Station
Niagara Falls International Airport Air Reserve Station, located adjacent to the Niagara Falls International Airport in New York, is a significant joint-use military installation. It is primarily home to two distinct flying wings: the 914th Air Refueling Wing (914 ARW) of the Air Force Reserve Command, and the 107th Attack Wing (107 ATKW) of the New York Air National Guard. The 914 ARW currently operates the KC-135R Stratotanker, playing a crucial role in the Air Force’s global air refueling mission, providing critical in-flight fuel to a variety of U.S. and allied aircraft. This dual-wing presence at one location highlights the “Total Force” integration within the U.S. military.
Beyond the KC-135s of the 914th ARW, the 107th Attack Wing has transitioned its mission over the years. Historically, the 107th also operated KC-135s, but they now fly MQ-9 Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft, providing critical intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike capabilities. This shift reflects the evolving nature of air warfare and the diverse roles played by Air National Guard units. The base also hosts various Army Reserve units, including the 865th Army Combat Support Hospital, the 277th Army Quartermasters Corp, and the 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry, further emphasizing its joint service nature and comprehensive support capabilities.
