2000 Airport Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK), located in Chamblee, Georgia, approximately 11 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, serves as a key general aviation hub in the southeastern United States. Originally established as Camp Gordon during World War I, the site transitioned to a naval air station before becoming a civilian airport in 1959.
Today, PDK is recognized as the second-busiest airport in Georgia, following Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with an impressive average of over 230,000 takeoffs and landings annually[1][2][3].
Overview and Facilities
Spanning 765 acres, PDK features four runways—each over 5,500 feet long—and a helipad. The airport is equipped to handle a variety of aircraft, including corporate jets and helicopters. It hosts several aviation service companies, flight schools, and maintenance facilities, contributing significantly to the local economy by generating approximately $130 million annually and supporting around 7,300 jobs[1][2][3].
Role in Aviation
As a designated “general reliever airport,” PDK alleviates congestion at Hartsfield-Jackson by accommodating smaller aircraft operations. This includes services for corporate jets, private charters, and flight training. The airport does not offer scheduled airline flights but is serviced by charter companies that provide flexible travel options[2][5].
Economic Impact
PDK plays a vital role in the economic landscape of DeKalb County. It is the third-largest property tax payer in the county and has been recognized by the National Air Transportation Association as one of “America’s 100 Most Needed Airports,” highlighting its importance for regional growth and development[1][3].
In summary, DeKalb-Peachtree Airport stands as a significant asset for both local and regional aviation needs, facilitating general aviation while supporting economic activity in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Celebrities in Atlanta
Each time I have been to KPDK I have spotted at least one celebrity whether it is a hip hop star or an A list actor. It handles all size private jets from Embraer Lineages down to a Honda Jet. There are multiple flight schools that work out of KPDK and they all seem to be extremely busy.
Restaurants at Peachtree/DeKalb Airport (KPDK)
Also, there are two restaurants at the airport! I have not tried either one though.
