Spokane Air National Guard Base, while often referred to as a separate entity, is actually an integral part ofย Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington. It serves as the home for theย 141st Air Refueling Wing (141 ARW)of the Washington Air National Guard.ย This unit is a crucial component of the “Total Force” concept at Fairchild, working alongside the active duty 92nd Air Refueling Wing to provide vital in-flight refueling capabilities to U.S. and allied aircraft.The 141 ARW operatesย KC-135R Stratotankers, extending the global reach and endurance of airpower for missions ranging from combat operations to humanitarian aid.
The 141st Air Refueling Wing has a storied history, having been activated in 1976 and moving to Fairchild from Geiger Field to accommodate the larger KC-135 aircraft.ย Its citizen-airmen are deeply integrated into the Spokane community, contributing significantly to both national defense and local civic life.ย By operating in conjunction with the active duty units at Fairchild, the 141 ARW ensures a robust and flexible aerial refueling force, capable of responding to diverse operational requirements both at home and abroad.
